Punk '77 : an inside look at the San Francisco rock 'n' roll scene, 1977
Published in Unknown Binding by Stark Grafix ()
Author: James Stark
Average review score:

Awsome and detailed interviews and photos
I actually got this book at the garage sale that Vale (the publisher) had a few weeks back and it was a fun experience in itself. The book is loaded with great pictures and interviews with a lot of the local scenesters in SF before the decline of the initial scene by "jock-punks" from the suburbs. I recommend this book to anyone with an interest in underground American history. I was actually mostly impressed with the socio-economic situation which existed at the time, the book delves into that aspect via the interviews quite a bit!

The Split
Published in Paperback by Allison & Busby Ltd ()
Author: Richard Stark
Average review score:

Non Stop Action!
Picture this: Parker and friends have pulled the perfect heist and Parker is holding the money till the heat cools down. Then an AMATEUR sneaks in, kills Parker's girl friend of the moment, finds and takes the stash, takes a couple of shots at Parker, and sets him up as the patsy for the murder. --- Parker is less than pleased.

From here on in it is non-stop action with all seven members of Parker's team hunting down the Amateur (who has a phobic fear of gunfire-someone else's, that is.) The cops get in the act and chase everyone while the body count rises.

Parker's partners are well drawn and each is sharply defined. By getting to know them, like in many Parker novels, you find yourself rooting for the bad guys. "The Split" like "Slayground" is almost total action, but Stark somehow gives us a sense of people and place, on the fly as it were. The Amateur, who is being stalked relentlessly, pauses for breath and thinks, "That's what death is; getting your heel caught in a crack of time."

This is an elegant, dark side of Donald Westlake. He should write the manual on anti-heroes. Highly recommended.

semi autobiographical tale of Conan Doyle
This is the story of a young Doctor in Victorian Britain. In this collection of letters written to an american friend, Stark Munro tells of the trials and tribulations that face him as he tries to build his practice. This book gives a fascinating insight into lower middle class life in Victorian Society. It is semi autobiographical and Conan Doyle uses the novel to discus his views on Religion.

That'S Outside My Boat Letting Go Of What You Can'
Published in Hardcover by Andrews McMeel Publishing (October, 2001)
Author: Charlie Jones

GREAT BOOK, REAL LIFE EXAMPLES
This book was great. Each chapter is no more than 4 pages each. It gives you real life stories from the former CEO of Nike to a vietnam veteran to a divorced mother. This book helps you to understand what it is you control and how you can control it, and to decide what you cannot control, so that it won't get the best of you. It is very well written, and helped me with my stressful job. I recommend this book to anyone in business and those in a a management or leadership role. This can help to develop teamwork, or it can apply individually. Out of all professional development books I have read, this is by far the best influence in my life and at work.

Nonfiction the Way It Out to be Wriiten.
This book and the two that follow are some of the best written, most captivating material I've had the pleasure to read in far too long. The stories will bring tears to your eyes and stay with you long after you've finished the book. I do hope Mr. Bellamy has more tales to tell.

Vector Space Projections: A Numerical Approach to Signal and Image Processing, Neural Nets, and Optics
Published in Hardcover by John Wiley & Sons (27 February, 1998)
Authors: Henry Stark and Yongyi Yang
Average review score:

The only book on this important subject in print
This book showed me how vector space methods are a natural way to use the computer for solving difficult problems in engineering design. Although my background in mathematics consists only of advanced calculus and linear algebra, I had no trouble following the theory and learning the applications. For electrical engineers, such as myself, the applications to digital filter design were particularly interesting. There are many other applications described, including the design of lenses, image processing, even neural nets. What I like is that the authors give the backgroud to each application so that even if you are unfamiliar with the field, there are clear and concise introductions that help your understanding of the problem. For example, in the digital filter design section, the authors explain why digital filters are important and how they relate to analog filters. To write a book like this takes not only broad knowledge but extraordinary expository skills.
